Throughout the course,we participate with the students in weekly field experiences of collecting measurements andvisual observations along Lost Creek, coupled with report submittals that analyze and reflectupon the work completed. Dr. Welker teaches a variety of geotechnical engineering courses and her research focuses on the geotechnical aspects of stormwater control measures.Dr. Seri Park, Villanova University Seri Park, PhD, P.T.P., is an Assistant Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Villanova University. She is serving as a member of Villanova’s International Students and Schol- ars as well as a member of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee for the CEE Department. She is also the faculty advisor of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Student Chapter at Villanova and member of Villanova’s
(i.e., graduate and seniortechnical elective) geotechnical engineering courses at California Polytechnic State University.The peer review process was established as an integral part of a term project that included awritten report and oral presentation to the class. A staged sequence of deadlines and milestoneswas administered to assure that students maintained progress with their projects. The format ofthe term papers was highly prescribed and based on a template for technical conferencemanuscripts. Content from the student projects was included in the final examination supportinga students teaching students integrated learning environment. Peer review was determined to bebeneficial to the students in terms of both technical content and
spurred changes to the degreerequirements. The last accreditation visit occurred prior to the curriculum redesign and rollout ofthe co-terminal program. The updated BSCE has not been accredited yet.The civil engineering department functions with five faculty members: four full-time teachingfaculty and one part-time teaching/department chair. In addition, the department includes onefull-time technician who aids in the operation of its laboratory space. With only five facultymembers, the program has four specialty areas: structural, transportation, geotechnical and waterresources engineering. Each of these specialty areas has its own dedicated laboratory space andis directed by the faculty member(s) with the associated subject matter expertise.The
