-credit optional coursethat was offered to both undergraduate and graduate students. The objectives of the course wereto review sustainable materials and practices as well as teach sustainable construction conceptsand methods. Additionally, the course taught the students about sustainability rating systemssuch as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and Envision rating system. The course included a training module every semester that covered special sustainability topics. Thus, the Fall 2022 semester had the training module teaching the students about PDMs for SIprojects. Registered students majoring in architecture, engineering, and construction participatedin this study. The survey was distributed to the participants using the

statistically represented the population, thegeneralization of the outcomes is not warranted. A larger sample size including students fromother universities and other research approaches can increase the reliability of the outcome.Further studies may cover factors that impact forming a team, collaboration success, rulesgoverning educational teams, and repeated versus fresh peer effects. Construction andengineering curricula can adopt more team-based activities to further improve collaboration andteamwork skills in students.REFERENCES[1] Constructing Excellence, “Effective Teamwork:A Best Practice Guide for the Construction Industry.” Constructing Excellence, 2004.[2] J. diligent execution of the plans. This paper presents our learningexperiences from launching the BS in construction engineering program at The Citadel to: i) identify thekey challenges and obstacles encountered in developing a new program and how they were overcome, ii)provide recommendations for best practices in launching a new college degree program, iii) todisseminate the lessons learned from the launch process and to encourage other institutions to considersimilar programs, and iv) to identify areas for improvement in existing construction engineering programsand suggest strategies to implement the improvements. An Overview of The Program Development ProcessDevelopment of the new BS in Construction Engineering program from internal discussions

. The authorsdelivered a 45-minute lecture-based module to teach these concepts which were followed by acombination learning module. Figure 1. Research FrameworkAfter the lecture, the authors instructed students to solve a real-world problem related to wastemanagement problem in Florida through the adoption of the circular economy principle:“Construction and Demolition (C&D) debris accounts for more than 25% of Florida’s totalmunicipal solid waste. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection established arecycling goal of 70% by 2018 and 75% by 2020. However, Florida’s 2018 C&D recycling ratewas 49%. Design for disassembly is one of the best ways to address the high consumption ofresources and the

class. “Events that traditionally have taken place insidethe classroom now take place outside the classroom and vice versa [2].” Students are introducedto course material and concepts before class, allowing in-person class time for students to engagein active learning and problem-solving, utilizing the support of peers and the instructor. Studentacademic engagement, peer engagement, and faculty engagement have been identified as threekey components that positively impact student learning, academic performance, and retention. The flipped classroom focuses on these same engagement practices, and research findingssuggest there is “improved student learning and positive perceptions within the flipped classroom[3].”A well-structured flipped classroom
