The laboratories appeared to be generally adequate to offer a BSEE program. Apre-engineering program had existed there for many years as well.In order for a regional university like EWU to offer a BSEE program Washington State law hadto be revised. Organized by EWU, NSCC, AeA and many engineering firms, staterepresentatives and senators were persuaded to put forward legislation to amend the state lawallowing regional universities to offer the BSEE program. The central objective of this pilot was to examinehow adaptation and later adoption of the new MIT edX 6.002x (Electronics and Circuits) MOOCcontent in a flipped model of teaching might improve student learning in a credit-bearing collegecourse. He was the first Ph.D. graduate from USC Information Science Institute in 1975, where some of the initial work on Arpanet was done. His research specialty at the time was in Knowledge Representation. In 1984, he left USC for almost 20 years to be an entrepreneur. Most of his work was in manufacturing, both in Detroit and Japan. During that time, he worked on programming real-time systems using an Agent methodology, which he now teach in his CSCI 201 class. He returned to USC in 2002 to teach full time.
