objectives and learning outcomes associated with this project are inherentlytied to introductory engineering graphics and design skills. The purpose of integrating the themeof culture-inspired design ideation is to enhance the learning process for students and provide ex-posure to a potentially untapped source of personal creativity. In order to fully understand the ef-ficacy and impact of a cultural theme on students’ experience during the engineering design pro-cess, a post-activity reflection and assessment is devised as an intervention method, specific tothe heritage-related aspects of the project. Results and DiscussionTo assess the impact of multicultural curricula and culturally-integrated learning initiatives onstudents' engagement and sense

Science, Technology, Engineering, andMathematics (STEM) experience lower rates of unemployment and higher salaries, aphenomenon seen across all nations. Recent technological advancements in the engineeringfield have created an environment for educators to reconsider the ways they should beeducating future engineers. Educational reform efforts have been spurred by concerns aboutcompetitiveness and the insufficient number of graduating engineers to fill vacant positions inthe job market. Several organizations have released reports that describe the need forsystemic change in the engineering education curriculum with a focus on skills that helpgraduates develop their employability skills, such as process, design and analytical skills [1][2] [3

introducestudents to manufacturing and prototyping to reinforce concepts and visualize the consequencesof their design decisions. However, identifying outdated aspects of the course to be substitutedwith their modern counterparts can be challenging. In this paper, we describe the decisions madeto create a more advanced design environment in an introductory-level engineering design andgraphics course without losing critical engineering design foundations. This includes building aproject-based curriculum focused on computer aided design of a product with considerations formultiple manufacturing methods, including 3D printing, laser cutting, and injection molding.IntroductionThe objective of pedagogical improvements in engineering education is to strive

the positive results of the project and encourage the incorporation of makerspace-based design projects into the Engineering Graphics curriculum, with a focus on the communitycollege setting.Engineering Design Graphics is a gateway introductory course in the Engineering curriculumthat has high potential for engaging and retaining freshman engineering students. An example ofa group project involving a simple marble lift will be presented that incorporates open-sourcedesign process content, engineering principles, functional analysis, lab safety, buildability,hands-on prototyping, exposure to various desktop manufacturing methods, inspection andmeasurement. The project is integrated throughout the course and includes reverse engineering
