Engineering Edu- cation (ASEE) and conducts research in engineering education.Darius Fieschko, University of Wisconsin - Platteville c American Society for Engineering Education, 2020 PLC Training in First Year Electrical Engineering ProgramAbstractProgrammable Logic Controllers ( PLCs) have had a profound impact on industry and society atlarge. PLCs are an integral part of a wide variety of control systems, ranging from industrialmanufacturing to amusement park rides and filmmaking. Programming languages like ladderlogic allow technicians and engineers without formal programming experience to build anddebug complex automation systems much faster than if they needed to physically build arrays ofrelays and

education and research. He is a licensed PE in the State of Colorado, a member of ASEE, a senior member of IEEE, and a senior member of SME. c American Society for Engineering Education, 2020 Pair-to-Pair Peer LearningAbstractIn this work, pair-to-pair peer learning (PPPL) as the simplest form of group-to-group peer learning(GGPL) is defined. GGPL is defined as a learning method where two or more peer groups interactto increase the knowledge of all members; while PPPL is defined as GGPL with group sizes ofonly two members each. A simple PPPL experiment was conducted and analyzed indicating anincrease in knowledge gain when compared to peer learning (PL) alone. The experiment
to provide productive feedback so the students can improve lab report writing afterhaving the U/GTAs’ evaluation and feedback.2.2 Development of U/GTA workshop on lab report writing pedagogyWedeveloped U/GTA training materials and conducted two training sessions during SpringSemester 2019. We developed the modularized training materials rooted in the “audience-centered writing” pedagogical approach, which views writing as a dynamic and inventiveprocess that occurs within a rhetorical situation and produces genres. This is different from atraditional “modes” approach, an approach that emphasizes formulas and templates, whichassumes writing to be a static, mechanical skill [17].The developed training materials use language to describe and

accreditation in ChinaAbstract:This paper reports the redesign of a junior level engineering experimentation courseto promote students’ problem solving and technical communication skills. The redesign wascarried out to support the accreditation of an engineering program in a technical institution inChina.Since China became an official member of the Washington Accord in 2016, engineeringprograms in Chinese universities and colleges have attempted to adopt outcome-basededucation. Between 2018 and 2019, the authors redesigned an experimentation course thathad been offered for 14 years at the authors’ home institution. The newly designed curriculumwas implemented for the first time in the fall semester of 2019.Following the guiding principle of letting

impact was not realizedby those identified as “at risk” [4]. Most of the existing research on PBL addresses residential(i.e. in class) and flipped classrooms environments. As noted in the 2019 ASEE AnnualConference for the division of “Experimentation and Lab-Oriented Studies” the onlineinvolvement of PBL towards engineering experimentation was virtually absent [5].The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the applicability of an online engineeringexperimentation course that empowers engineering students to attain hands-on, appliedengineering experimentation experiences within their normal dwellings. This course usesinexpensive, yet reasonably accurate sensors and data acquisition systems. An objective of thecourse was to deliver students
