consistently shapes their persistence and success is their advisingrelationship. The way students perceive the support they receive from this relationship caninfluence their self-efficacy concerning the competences needed to finish their dissertation, thesisor applied project report. Understanding the relationship between the student’s self-efficacytowards their culminating tasks and their perception of their advisor’s support is essential, asfrom a motivational standpoint, it can serve as a closer proxy for degree completion. This research paper presents the development and validation of the Advisor Support and Self-efficacy for Thesis completion (ASSET) survey, which measures two constructs: Thesis Self-efficacy and Advisor Support. The former

structured interviewdata collected through an extracurricular student project. We investigated three key aspects ofgraduate school, particularly experiences with 1) work-life-balance, 2) imposter syndrome, and3) burnout. To develop the survey and interview instruments, we developed a pool of memes andgraduate student oriented advice columns then used thematic analysis to identify 9 thematicquestions about the graduate student experience. For this work, the data set was abbreviated toconsider only the 3 most salient topics. We found that students generally disagreed with thenegative themes identified and that memes tended to exaggerate these features of graduatestudent experience. However, emergent themes of self-efficacy in our analysis demonstrated

paths. Together, these studies demonstrate thatformal PD programs, whether focused on individual reflection, flexible learning formats, orcollaborative engagement, can play an important role in influencing the development of teachingidentity.Teaching self-efficacy refers to an instructor's confidence in their ability to teach effectively andpositively influences student learning. Teaching self-efficacy reinforces and strengthens teachingidentity, as increased confidence in instructional abilities enables GTAs to take ownership of theirroles as educators [9, 10]. DeChenne et al. [9] developed and validated the STEM GTA TeachingSelf-Efficacy Scale (STEM GTA-TSES), a tool specifically designed to measure teaching self-efficacy among STEM GTAs

Our theoretical framework, further described above, values (1) self-efficacy, (2)science/research identity, and (3) social cognitive career theory model to recruit, enroll, andgraduate 12 LSAMP Fellows with STEM doctoral degrees. Our goals, then, are to (1) evaluateour intervention’s success on the three stated objectives and (2) measure the stated constructswithin the theoretical framework to test our theory of change.Approach to assessment.Evaluation of the BD Program will utilize both internal and external expertise. Thiscollaboratively managed evaluation will have a mixed-methods approach emphasizing the designof several survey instruments

departure, or systemic biases that impact their successful progress.International students face additional challenges related to language self-efficacy, demographicalseparation from social support sources, adjusting to new cultural dynamics, and issues related tovisa and employment requirements [2], [5], [6]. These challenges can lead to isolation, higherattrition rates, lack of enthusiasm for the programs of study, and abandonment of the researchcareer path altogether upon graduation [7]. As a result, there is a need for more emphasis onprograms that prepare new graduate students to deal with the challenges experienced in graduateschool that lead to attrition.Completion of the doctoral or graduate program is not the only measure of success in

Severalreasons are given for this phenomenon, including increased mental health challenges, lack ofcareer planning and development, and ineffective

Despite its origin of superior-subordinate pairs in formal organizations [23], LMX hasbeen applied to graduate student-advisor relationships in fields outside of engineering [24], [25]as well as postdoc-advisor relationships in engineering [15]. Research on graduate students hasbeen largely quantitative and shown that high-quality LMX relationships are correlated withsatisfaction and self-efficacy of doctoral students in rehabilitation counseling programs [24]. Inanother quantitative study of Chinese students in many disciplines, high LMX was found to bepositively correlated with creativity and negatively correlated with hindrance stress, the type ofstress arising from

Students whoshow self-efficacy, that is confidence in their work, leads to positive outcomesin career trajectory and more competence in core abilities (Sverdlik et al. 2018,p. 379-380). This is also tied to student’s self-worth. Student’s who feel successas a result of their accomplishments as a graduate student are more likely tohave continued motivation (Sverdlik et al. 2018, p. 379-380). This can also, however, cause major determent to some students. Students whose identity istied to academic success and then find

Financial literacy and self-efficacy are important factors in college students' financialwellness, with higher levels associated with better financial behaviors and outcomes [2].Financial stress and higher levels of self-reported student loan debt contribute to an increasedlikelihood of discontinuing college. However, students with the highest amount of university-reported student loan debt have a decreased likelihood of discontinuing college one year latercompared to students with no student loan debt [3].However, higher levels of financial anxiety are negatively associated with student loanrepayment behaviors. Research has shown that higher objective financial knowledge isassociated with better student loan repayment behaviors, but

It promotes a student-centric pedagogical approach that acknowledges themultifaceted literacy practices that students contribute to the university environment and theinterpretations they attribute to academic writing [20].The ability to critically assess digital content and use it to create knowledge is increasingly linkedto academic literacy in contemporary situations [25, 26].Academic literacy capability is made up of the following elements: 1. Approaches to academic literacy encompass the development of self-evaluation, self- regulation, metacognitive skills, self-esteem, and self-efficacy as a writer. Additionally, it involves fostering persistence and tolerance for frustration [27]. 2. The ability to manage suitable

theprogram. The third action, supporting students' self-actualization and actively motivating them, isimportant because it helps students to develop a sense of agency and self-efficacy. This can beachieved through encouragement, positive feedback, and support for their personal andprofessional growth. The fourth action, contributing to the development of the student's professional andacademic network, is critical because it can help students build valuable connections andopportunities for their future careers. This could include introducing students to relevantprofessionals in their field, helping them network at conferences or other events, or providingguidance on how to build a strong professional brand. Finally, the fifth
