The team established the following goals (which were asubset from the institution’s strategic plan) that established the foundation for creating newinitiatives to address the most pressing issues: 1) enhance student retention, 2) expandengineering student enrollment, 3) enhance the non-traditional student experience bytransforming the delivery of student services, 4) expand veteran, reservists, and active dutyenrollments, 5) expand diversity, and 6) recruit and retain a diverse faculty and staff. Armed withthe new strategic plan, the leadership team began developing new programs and setting

They are planned to be used for demo purposes at high schoolrecruiting activities. This paper covers the first two phases of the Jammer Project: creating a mock RCIED and thecircuit to control the jammer. It begins with a short description of the course in which the lab istaught, how the link to high school students came about, plus some background information onmilitary applications and what the military terms “electronic warfare”. Then it describes thedesign and construction of both devices, followed by the

In addition tothe discussion of the program-level design, military friendly course design decisions will also bediscussed. These include key decisions to distance-enable the courses, using individuals withmilitary experience to help deliver certain courses and the use of student assistants to aid thelearning of students enrolled in the cybersecurity courses. This paper examines the ACE credit recommendations for ten current warrant officer specialtycourses with technology containing curriculum to compare them to typical technology courses accreditedby ABET, formerly the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology [3]. Technical Communication ClassroomAbstractRates of veteran enrollment in colleges and universities are approaching levels not seen since thefifties, due in large part to the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill, an educational assistance plan for eligibleveterans. Connecting veteran students with the support skills they need is crucial to theircontinuing success, in the classroom and beyond. Studies suggest that veteran students performto their academic best when given clear objectives and product exemplars, with a focus on best-practice—a result that runs contrary to received wisdom in composition pedagogy research. Thispaper argues that a Technical Writing and Communication (TWC) classroom organized aroundproject-based learning is a best

In the post WWII era, higher education researchattended more to student veteran issues than to student veteran experiences. These issuesincluded the larger impacts of G.I. Bill assistance programs [e.g., 16, 17], curricular design andinstructional delivery needs of veterans [e.g., 18, 19, 20], provisions for awarding college creditfor past military training, courses, and experience [e.g., 17], and the types of supports needed bystudent veterans [e.g., 17, 21, 22, 23]. Few studies of this era attended to student veteranexperience; those that did so chronicled student veteran post discharge academic plans

During the course of the design, build and fly competition portions of the challenge, the team directly led or provided support for three institutional camps and two communityoutreach events. These camps focused primarily on middle-school and high-school students thatare underrepresented in STEM education. Coordination for these outreach activities had to becompleted in tandem with the technical and operational tasks. This created another level ofdifficulty, specifically for the team’s leadership. Student-veteran attributes became apparent inplanning and conducting these events. The student-veterans treated these events like a militaryrange exercise. They planned, delegated responsibilities, and managed

Many of thecivilian employers can offer higher pay and competitive benefits, but veterans appear to gravitateto DoD employment, post-graduation. Many of the regional DoD and civilian organizationsbenefit from the student veterans earning engineering degrees. For many of the surveyedemployers, veteran employees are leaders, directly and indirectly, and make a difference in theirorganizations. Their ability to adapt, organize, plan, and execute is a model for many. For studentveterans, main attractions to DoD employment include the central focus of the work mission, shared integrity of fellow workers they believe are attracted
