, career track surveys, project-based learning, afield trip and peer-to-peer supervising and learning. Especially, we are exploring the studentlearning outcomes of interdisciplinary projects when we mix students from ME and EE in thesame team. Several surveys are given to students and teaching assistants through the semester toexplore students’ outcomes and feedback about diverse activities. Results show that studentsprefer learning and working cross the fields. They do not just learn the basics of ME and EE butalso gain a lot of soft skills from different activities. We find such a course gives freshmenespecially those who do not know what EE is a better idea about EE. A couple of studentsdecided to transfer to the EE major or be double majored

acommunity college. Each applicant to the program is interviewed by the Program Director andwrites an essay. Preferred qualifications include a growth mindset and an interest in project-basedand self-directed learning (subjectively evaluated via the interview). A cohort of Junior 1 learners(J1) starts each semester; total enrollment is capped at 50 learners in upper division (J1 to Senior2) per year. The incoming student engineers are not cream of the crop students. They are bright toaverage mostly local students who become high-quality engineers in just two years by doingengineering work in an intensive learning environment, supported by professors who care a greatdeal about learners’ readiness for a successful entry-level job placement and career

A well-designed, relevant, and engaging curriculum will provide ample opportunities for rigorous exploration of the concepts. Using a proven leaderdevelopment model and assessment tool in a technical writing course is novel. Using a tool forearly assessment gives team members a voice.
