]. Moreover, the NGSS was criticized for its limited focus on keysafety concepts related to science and engineering [1,11].Six years after the release of the NGSS, the Standards for Technological and EngineeringLiteracy (STEL) [2] were published. The STEL placed a strong emphasis on engineering safetyconcepts across the standards, practices, and context areas [1]. Unlike many science teacherpreparation programs, the literature indicates that P-12 engineering teacher preparation programsoften require coursework addressing safety topics directly related to engineering educationfacilities and pedagogy [12,18-20]. Additionally, students in P-12 engineering teacherpreparation programs frequently are introduced to engineering safety practices during their

methods of incorporating STEM disciplines – and specificallyengineering design – in educational robotics training with a motivating end-goal to participate ininternational robotics competitions [1]–[4].The importance of diversity in STEM education has been well documented in numerous studies[5]–[8]. It has been well established that diversity in team composition can lead to increasedcreativity and innovation in problem-solving. It can enhance team performance by bringingtogether a wider range of perspectives and experiences. Furthermore, diversity and inclusion canimprove organizational culture and contribute to a more positive work environment within teams. To address this topic and promote STEM education in Qatar, this paper presents the

)IntroductionLabor market indicators predict continued growth of well-paid employment in science andengineering[1], but evidence suggests lower readiness among rural students for jobs in these fields.Rural students are now graduating at rates comparable to their urban and suburban peers, butcontinue to fall behind in pursuing postsecondary education, including in engineering[2]. Multiplestudies indicate that these differences begin long before individuals enter the workforce and arebased in large part on the students’ sense of belonging in science, technology, engineering, andmathematics (STEM)[3-4]. Evidence points to the positive role that an equitable learningenvironment (ELE) can play in secondary classrooms to ensure that all students, particularly

awarded annually [1]. The percentage of STEM bachelor’s degrees awarded tofemale students is 37.4% compared to their male counterparts, who constitute 62.6% of studentsearning degrees. Furthermore, only 6.5% of these degrees were awarded to Black students, and12.3% were awarded to Hispanic students. An increase in citations and publications citing theterm “STEM Outreach” (Figure 1) is evidence of interest in outreach within academia. Asoutreach programs are further developed for the purpose of early engagement for students fromgroups underrepresented in engineering, it is important for researchers to understand how toadapt research to outreach for students to create positive learning experiences.Figure 1. K-12 school systems are racing to implement Computer Science (CS) education within classrooms across the United States. Prior research on education reform movements suggests that without rigorous research, combined with careful technical support for implementation, we should expect wide variation across districts in how they choose to implement computer science education as well as extreme inequality in

This research aimed to understand howschool-based teacher leaders can support peer educators in authentically integratingengineering design within their core subjects. Our research questions were: 1) To what extentwas the High-Quality Engineering Guidebook used within each TaLENt fellow's Project? 2)How did the TaLENt fellows characterize their values while collaborating with their novicepeers?Employing a qualitative method, we used constant comparative analysis and triangulation tounderstand our collected datasets: TaLENt fellow

In the currenttechnology-rich era, where every teenager has a phone glued to their hands, it has becomepertinent to design school-based educational activities that stimulate and build upon thoseinterests. Students’ motivation levels increase when they combine their experiences with learningactivities. Similarly, research indicates that integrating science, math, and engineering conceptspositively impacts student engagement with engineering design and skills [1]. PurposeThe work in progress paper presents the engineering design projects from e4usa that engagedSWDs as the stakeholders, and specifically focuses on the observations and experiences of e4usateachers, e4usa student teams, and the SWDs who served as the stakeholders and the educatorsthat support them. The logic model in Figure 1 further presents the desired outcomes ofeducators and students participating in design projects that engage SWDs. As mentioned, themission of e4usa is to increase engineering literacy for all and expand opportunities for thosetraditionally underserved and marginalized in engineering. Showcasing these unique engineeringdesign projects may help increase interest in engineering by all students, including those withdisabilities

The rising11th and 12th graders attend residential camp during their week, living in student dorms andexperiencing life on a college campus. It is within this context the research will be conducted.Theoretical Frameworks for Tools A literature review identified resources to guide the development of the assessment toolkit. There are manyadvantages to performance assessment, including face validity, the emphasis on skills and theability to deal with complexity and relevance. Performance assessment tasks should meet severalcriteria: they should (1) elicit observable performances, (2) use a standard set of tasks, (3) havehigh fidelity to “real life” performances, (4) measure a variety of levels of performance, (5) andafford improvement with practice. White students make up 64% of the share of engineering degreesawarded, while Black and Hispanic students make up 4% and 12% respectively (NCES, 2021)Research QuestionsThis research focuses on the following three research questions: 1. What impact, if any, does a project-based STEM curriculum have on the graduation rate of high school students? 2. Compared to matched non-PLTW students, how does participation in PLTW courses affect students’ likelihood to graduate with an engineering major compared to matched non-PLTW students? 3. Are there differential impact of the PLTW program on traditionally disadvantaged groups
