creates amore engaging and effective learning environment. Students are motivated to pay closer attentionto lectures, as they understand that the knowledge gained will be applied in practical exercises. Moreover, hands-on activities provide immediate feedback to both students and instructors.Students can identify areas where they need further clarification, while instructors can gauge theoverall understanding of the class and adjust their teaching approach accordingly. process and the team has demonstrated proper design methodology during the design process.Automotive Systems Capstone The ME492 (Mechanical Powertrains and Vehicle Dynamics) course provides much of the basicknowledge required of mechanical engineering majors to participate in the Society of AutomotiveEngineers’ BAJA SAE competition. In academic year 08 a new course director took over the course. This course director had served as a committee member for the academic year 07’s Baja-SAE team. InAY 07 it was quickly apparent that the Baja-SAE team lacked some basic knowledge required to properdesign of the vehicle. A review of the AY 07 ME492 syllabus revealed some of the underlying causes: Lesson

the average studentperforms 2% better than predicted and the distribution of this difference is negatively skewed (-0.64) indicating the bulk of the students outperform the prediction. Also notice in Figure 1 that no students were predicted to finish with above a 93%. This is likelydue to the fact that few students earn all A’s and A+’s in previous coursework, so very few havea GPA higher than 4.0. This prediction, therefore, fails to predict that students will score an A+in a future course. 100% 95% 90% Actual Performance (in CE300) 85% 80% 75

amplify them. A weightedsummer circuit for the LM35 temperature sensor [8] was used as is shown in Figure 2. where theLM35’s output range is 20mV to 1500mV. With this design the group was able to manipulate theoutput to the proper 0V to 2.5V required by the microcontroller. In order to condition the outputsignal from the Figaro TGS6810 [11] gas sensor, an AD620 operational amplifier was used (seeFigure 2). This was necessary because each Figaro sensor has an offset that needs to be adjustedby means of a differential voltage. The AD620 is capable of amplifying the output of the gassensor to range from 0V to 2.5 Volts. Not all components in the system though are intended to aid in amplifying a signal. In thecase of the circuitry that

It is like continuing to date after you are married.”Students frequently ask about professional expectations. ). MethodsInstrument and VariablesWe used the Advisor Support and Self-Efficacy for Thesis completion (ASSET) survey to gatherdata for our study. With engineering graduate programs at HSIs as a focus and SCCT as atheoretical underpinning, ASSET was designed to explore graduate students' thesis ordissertation self-efficacy and their perceptions of advisor support. The instrument is based onVarney’s Dissertation Self-Efficacy (2010) and Zhao et al.’s Advisor Behavior (2007) scales, adapted to the engineering context as the Thesis Self-Efficacy and Advisor Support constructs.Previous work, which comprised an exploratory factor analysis (EFA), provided constructvalidity evidence for the adapted scales in the instrument (Mercado Rivera et al., 2023).The survey
