The Ohio State University has created a “cornerstone” design course, available tofreshmen, in which basic micro-fluid dynamics concepts are presented, using CFD software as avisualization and verification tool (5). With this negative impact on the nationalengineering workforce where “only 40 to 60 percent of entering engineering students persist toan engineering degree, and women and minorities are at the low end of that range”5(p.40), it iscrucial that we find ways of stemming the engineering attrition.
