engineering drawing, improve their threedimensional (3D) visualization skills, and to teach the fundamentals of a computer aided design.The students meet with the instructor twice a week in the laboratory during this three-credit-hoursemester-long course with each class lasting two hours long. Each class is scheduled to deliverthe lecture first after which the students are allowed to complete their assigned homework andask questions as needed. The students learn the principles of orthographic projections and applythe principles to multiple view drawings by hand during the first four weeks of a fourteen-weeksemester. Session CIEC 421Experimental designThe exterior wood for this project was provided by Mr. Jason Church from the National Centerfor Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT). This wood is 78 years old and it was madeof cedar and had an application of at least two to three layers of previous stain and paint on itssurface. Samples were cut using a table saw in rectangles approximating 7.5x14.1 centimeter.Four samples were needed for each brand’s five application methods: a, b, c, and d. Sample ‘a’was used at the control for each set, not placed into the QUV. Scraping and sanding wasperformed to remove the previous paint layers. After this process, sample labels were solderedinto the back of each sample in order to be able to differentiate them

The use of these two software programs (data acquisition and dataanalysis programs) allow the fast and accurate analysis of the heat of combustion of a given fuelsample, allowing the student to have a greater insight into this process. The application of thedata acquisition and analysis programs of this project is applicable to almost any experimentwhere several different temperatures are required to be recorded and analyzed in the educationof undergraduate students in an introductory thermodynamics course.Examination of the temperature ~ time plot (Figure 4) shows temperature fluctuations of about± 0.1 deg C in temperature data

This process hasbeen incremental with some changes made every year and was first described in “Studio-BasedSignals and Systems”. The current paper reports on the status of this transition and, mostimportantly, concentrates on an assessment of the effectiveness of the changes based on theSignals and Systems Concept Inventory (SSCI) published by Buck et al.
