Data was collected fromthree courses that have an emphasis on engineering design and promote the use of universitymaker spaces as part of the curriculum: Intro to Engineering Graphics, Creative Decisions andDesign, and Capstone Design. These courses are tailored to students from the freshmen,sophomore, and senior year, respectively. Since the courses cannot be taken simultaneously, theyensure that we can track the same students throughout their undergraduate education. Team skillsare critical for engineering students, since they will likely work in teams throughout their careers. Engineering graduate degrees are becoming increasinglyimportant for professional and career development, and so understanding how individuals acclimate tograduate school environments is a critical first step in improving the overall process and ensuringcompetent graduates who are ready to effectively engage in professional practice.Thus, this paper describes a framework for the development, and implementation of a pilot summerbridge for students from underrepresented populations as they transition into a graduate program. We searched the internet for used copiesof Studying Engineering, which can sometimes be obtained for much less than $10 (sometimesas low as $3 or $4), and provide the textbook free of charge to students in the CEAS-EXEPCohort.
