for Development discusses approaches for making engineering more attractive tostudents, particularly women.10 The UNESCO report describes the work of Regina Clewlow andEngineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) whose mission is to “stimulate and foster an increasedand more diverse community of engineers and to infuse sustainability into the practice andstudies of every engineer.” The authors of this paper have been involved with curriculumdevelopment for multidisciplinary engineering efforts that support the missions and goals ofUNESCO and ESW. In this work, we discuss a multidisciplinary project designed to meet thechallenges set forth in the UNESCO report. This paper describes an authentic learning experience involving an international

that provide a significant design experience. While most engineering programs around theworld introduce design at distinct points in a curriculum, such as freshman and capstone design courses,we present the concept of a “4-D” design pedagogy, where design is integrated across courses, semesters, years, and extra-curricular activities. This pedagogy, or framework, may be implemented in whole or inpart in any engineering program.Building on this design pedagogy, we present the context of designiettes in terms of educational theories, the I-Engineering, and assessment. We then explore the strategic development and use of designiettes, and present a literature review on small scale design project efforts as they relate to the concept ofdesigniettes

This tester pulls specimens 80 mm long, so it required modificationto test crab shell material. The MET students were asked to design clamps to hold the crab shellsecurely without crushing it, at a predetermined gauge length. In an upcoming semester, a newclass of students will customize the software to produce meaningful results. appreciationfor the experience and skills gained from the leadership module, as well as an increase inconfidence for women as engineers.IntroductionProfessional skills are often underemphasized in engineering programs. These “soft” skills –proficiencies such as leadership, teamwork, and communication – are important attributes of asuccessful engineer. Traditional engineering curricula and lecture formats need to be revised toenhance these professional skills, as “the quality of future engineers depends very much on thequality of engineering education”1. Service learning and design projects are new pedagogicalmethods found to be effective in nurturing these skills2,3. Moreover, service learning has thepotential to attract and retain women in engineering4

Process control includes a process, measuring devices (sensors), control algorithms (controller), and final control elements(controlled device). All these are combined in what is known as control loop. Different controlalgorithms and structures such as Feedback and Feed forward can be incorporated in a controlsystem.
