competitions have been both incorporatedinto existing civil engineering courses and run as extracurricular activities through student groups.Recently several faculty members at Manhattan College have introduced a similar project with atwist to incorporate sustainability concepts in concrete technology into a course named CivilEngineering Materials. The motivation behind the decision to add this project was to assign acourse project that: 1) provided the students with a hands-on way to learn about concrete mixdesign and the sustainable aspects of concrete, 2) required the students to work in teams and 3)allowed the students to be creative and think outside the box.
