assesses competencies in system design, implementation,project management and documentation. Each competency is evaluated on a 1 to 5 scale,representing skill levels associated with a Pre-Engineer, Trainee, Intern, Entry-Level Engineerand Professional, respectively. The competencies were assessed using freshman, sophomore andsenior capstone design courses in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University ofIdaho. The data show that the scores improved consistently from freshman to senior years, withthe largest increase in system design skills, followed by implementation, project management,and then documentation.
