components for most of the students in the courseare shown together in Figure 4.) The students were free to select what part of their work wouldbe 3-D-printed and how that item would be incorporated into the overall sculpture. This resultedin a variety of choices by the students. In Figure 5, the 3-D-printed pieces were balloons, mounted above plaster mountains. The twomedia (plastic and plaster) were thus physically separated. The artist (Student A) provided thefollowing commentary about their piece: “It is ironic that humans live within a physical body, but what makes us human is what we carry in our minds and heads. I decided to abstractly apply this idea to my project. The mountainous landscape below the balloons represent[s] our physical

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has acontinuum model demonstrating the overlap in an engineering education as opposed to anengineering technology one [3]. An engineer’s education resides more on the analysis side of thecontinuum, and engineering technology on the production. The middle area shared by bothdisciplines are the activities associated with design and development. Therefore, the roles of anengineer and engineering technologist can overlap. , the value of the1st and 3rd quartiles, and the standard deviation. Finally, we computed an average across allweeks to determine the average times students pivot each week. Only nine weeks were includedin our calculations since week 10 has no programming assignments. Students who did notattempt any of the assigned programs for a given week were excluded from weekly calculations.4.2 ResultsFigure 1's box-and-whisker plot summarizes the number of pivots students did each week.Above each whisker are the average number of pivots and the standard deviation. The averagenumber of pivots across all weeks is shown in the top-right corner. The x-axis is the weeknumber and the y-axis is the average number of pivots. Fig. 1. Box-and-whisker plot to show
