[15].STS Postures does not rely on classical ethical theories. Rather, it’s a method for teachingundergraduates that we derived from experiences teaching undergraduates the interdisciplinaryfield of the same acronym, Science and Technology Studies (STS) [1] [2] [3]. Theories in thefield such as situated knowledges, epistemic humility, strong objectivity, interpretive flexibility,boundary metaphors, and actor network theory explicitly informed our definitions of eachindividual posture (See figure 1). We created three central categories – analytical approaches,data collection, and body/mind engagement that, when applied to classroom lesson plans, has theeffect of energizing students and professors.Figure 1. The bottom of the footing is 5 ft below the ground surface. StandardPenetration Tests were conducted, revealing three soil layers to a depth of 32 ft. The soil profile(Figure 2) includes 5 ft of loose sand, followed by sandy soil (unit weight = 113 pcf) from 5 to 9ft, clayey soil from 9 to 17 ft, and sandy soil (unit weight = 118 pcf) from 17 to 37 ft. Statistical tests were conducted and results were documented on the power of simulation.Development of Finite Element AnalysisA computer program was developed by idealizing the flexible pavement into a finite element continuum.In this investigation a layered pavement system was idealized as an axisymmetric solid with finiteboundaries in both radial and axial directions, as shown in Fig 1. The axisymmetric body was thendivided into a set of ring elements, rectangular in section and connected along their nodal circles. Thefinite elements are actually complete rings in the circumferential direction, and the nodal points at whichthey are connected are circular lines in plan view. task. Creativity vs. performance was a constant argument during this project.Conclusions and Future PlansA simple, hands-on, open ended problem was introduced to the Strength of Materials Course. This open-ended exercise facilitated communication between the instructor and the students, encouraged team workamongst the students, and provided an opportunity for active learning and for emphasizing creativeproblem solving. Future plans call for the development of additional projects that can be incorporatedinto the Strength of Materials Course. The students will come to lab prepared with a datasheet for their planned experimental trials; they will need to determine which water contents theywill utilize during their procedure. It will be recommended that the students perform four runs atthree different water contents and a dry run. During each experimental trial the students will collect product gas at different timeintervals. The gas will be collected in air sampling bags and be tested in the GC during start upof the next trial to be more time efficient. The majority of studentshad no suggestions, but among those who did, common themes included the following-flexibility in selecting the group members instead of having the instructor assign them randomly,incorporating peer grading to ensure fair assessment and accountability, and offering extra creditactivities to help strengthen group bonds.Conclusion In my experience, class family model has proven to be an effective strategy for fosteringcollaboration, improving learning outcomes, and building lasting relationships among students.While challenges like uneven work distribution can arise, they can be mitigated through clearguidelines and proactive communication. BME programs may be particularly susceptible to losing students inprerequisite coursework, as students must take prerequisite courses in the typical pre-engineeringareas, such as math and physics, in addition to extensive coursework in chemistry and biology.ResultsWe distributed a survey to 85 BME students and received 40 responses, including upper-divisionstudents already in our major and lower-division pre-major students who are currently enrolledin an introductory prerequisite course in a different department. Thoseparticipants reported that they initially joined the NRT planning to complete a master’s degree;however, due to their positive experience with the UK NRT, particularly with transdisciplinaryresearch, they decided to pursue a doctorate.4. Similarly, with respect to Engineering Identity, a 13-item surveycalled the Engineering Identity Scale (EIS) taken from Godwin, 2016 [3] was administered to 26 studentsin the Fall of 2022.Preliminary Findings and DiscussionDepicted below in Table 1 are percentages of students (N = 33) who either “agree” or “strongly agree”with various survey statements. As is evident from these responses, the S-STEM scholarship isinstrumental to help students reduce their job hours, and presumably enabling them to spend more time ontheir studies.
