These quantitative data indicatethat both FTIC and transfer students at CEC share similar attributes; they are part-time students, need morefinancial support, are older than traditional students, and many do not earn their degrees within four or evensix years. All of the CEC graduation rates are considerably lower than reflected in some national data sets (see Table1). For instance, the national four-year graduation rate for engineering undergraduates is 32% (AmericanSociety for Engineering Education or ASEE, 2019), compared to just 14% at Florida InternationalUniversity. Each year, STEM Scholar Awards are made to several faculty whohave successfully applied EBT to their courses. We described many of these thrusts at the 2019 ASEE conference. In this paper, we will focusmore on describing the thrusts that have been implemented, or have evolved, since then. Also, asthis grant is in its no-cost extension year, we will present results and lessons learned.Specifically, we will address the number of faculty, graduate assistants and undergraduatestudents directly impacted by each thrust and will quantify, to the extent possible, the effect ofthat impact. Surprisingly, despite the challenges posed by thepandemic, the recruitment targets for the REU program were exceed (31/30). However, therecruitment targets for the RET program did fall short (9/15).Lab ToursIn 2019, participants received a tour of the research labs at the host institution in which they wouldbe participating. Since that became impossible to do due to the pandemic, faculty advisors wereasked to prepare an introductory video of their research activities and the associated labs. Theseapproximately 5-minute videos were presented to all participants

American c Society for Engineering Education, 2021 Institutional Data as Motivation for Course-Level Change in EngineeringIntroduction and BackgroundFor decades, studies have called for attention to recruiting and retaining a diverse studentpopulation in STEM fields and increasing the numbers of STEM graduates [1, 2]. Multiplestudies have documented an “achievement gap” in terms of success for under-representedminorities (URM) [3] and first-generation college students [4], and also provide a multitude ofsuggestions for better supporting these students at the institutional and classroom levels [3, 5].In 2019, ASEE
