observed that teams that appeared to be organizationally high-functioning(e.g., teams that set and achieved milestones, and addressed challenges in ways that did not leadto interpersonal conflicts) had better engineering outcomes (e.g., quality of innovation,measurable outputs). For these reasons, the teaching team introduced team science approachesinto the EIH program. Team science is defined as “a collaborative effort to address a scientificchallenge that leverages the strengths and expertise of professionals trained in different fields”[6]. This innovative model for integrating team science training within an existing biodesigneducation program was previously described, along with preliminary evidence of effectiveness[2].
