to devise a master plan for a trail network within the city.OutcomesThe final plan of the trail network incorporated existing trails connecting the city to thesurrounding areas. The plan tied together many of the existing trails surrounding the downtowndistrict to the planned trails connecting the rapidly developing areas in the north within the city. The planned trails are expected to provide better connectivity for commuting and recreationaluse. Two very well connected new trails will connect the southwest area to the northeast. Aseparated trail was under construction in a city’s segment. Once that corridor is completed therewill be a strong connection from south to north, also connecting to the existing trail and arecreational trail

brainstorm session. Lastly, students are given one hour to picktheir top three ideas, quickly prototype them and exchange feedback with peers.Project Week 4During this week’s lab, students first summarize the feedback they receive for their prototypesfrom the previous lab. Afterwards, they choose a list of criteria to evaluate their prototypes andconstruct a decision matrix to pick their top design solution. They then plan on how toimplement their top solution by creating a bill of materials and developing a Gantt chart.Project Week 5This week’s lab is for proposal presentation. Each student team gives a 5-min presentation topitch their project. Students are asked to use the Need, Approach, Benefits, Competition (NABC)template [23] to show how their

negative impact onstudent interest in the course. This was seen in the fall of 2014, when in spite of marketing thecourse broadly, most students had already planned their fall class line-up and the course failed tofill to the course minimum and was cancelled for that term.Upon investigation and interviews with students who were thought to be viable coursecustomers, it was revealed that after the course’s one year hiatus in 2013, the group ofprospective students planning to take the course had advanced in their programs and were nolonger able to fit the course into their schedule which now included a healthy dose of researchcredits. Additionally, the perceived unreliable availability of the course led students whoseinterests were in industrial

measures of engineering task self-efficacy (ETSE), followed by their female counterparts. These results add evidence to theassertion that women often possess lower self-efficacy compared to their male peers [16-20],with concrete professional implications. Awareness of these results is important for engineeringeducators and administrators when interacting with diverse students in the classroom, inmentoring scenarios, and in planning support activities. Drawing from Bandura’s sources of self-efficacy [4], engineering educators can be intentional about designing mastery experiences, providing explicit social encouragement, and creating environments that foster a positiveinterpretation of somatic and emotional responses, particularly for URM and women

Based on these results, the authors identified one area of improvement that is directlyrelated to the program. This area is to analyze and interpret data. Analyzing and interpreting datacan be directly related to designing and conducting an experiment. The authors plan toemphasize the testing and validating phase of the capstone course by increasing the length oftime that students can complete this

I have realized that there are toomany fields of engineering that excite me and plan to go into. Sadly, I cannot do them all. Myinterests are all in the STEM fields, which now I have realized that it is time to narrow it downinto a particular field.”Student 15: “The Mentorship program has been one of the most rewarding experiences as astudent of the STEM field. At the start of the program I had my mind set on a certain school anda specific engineering field to pursue. I got super excited about all sorts of fields I never evenconsidered. partners to integrate manyof these activities in order to provide more professional practice skills beyond traditionalengineering education to our students. We believe our recent success in fostering sustainedindustrial partnership is the direct result of the following practices:  Proactive recruitment: selecting partners who have long-term interest to affiliate with the program and replacing inactive members through normal attrition.  Relevant engagement: involving partners with activities that have potential impacts on the program and providing them with a well-planned agenda so they feel full engaged and take ownership of the affiliation.  Steady leadership: selecting and retaining strong leaders who understand

customers or industries, thetechnologies in the toolbox are applicable for each of the planned portfolio projects. The technology toolbox itself put requirements on employee skills. An assessment of theavailable employee skills at the company should be conducted in order to define the gap andanalyse future requirements for the personnel. Hiring recent graduates, who already haveknowledge in the technology, can then close the gap. In order to assure that the students willhave the necessary knowledge the company should establish the contact to these studentsalready before their graduation. Thus in case of Big Data solutions in the company’s portfolioand graph database technologies in the technology toolbox, the company might realize a needin a group
