Abstract

The mission of the National Center for Next Generation Manufacturing (NCNGM), funded by the National Science Foundation’s Advanced Technological Education (NSF ATE) program, Grant #2055767, and led by the Connecticut College of Technology (COT), is to cultivate and nurture partnerships with stakeholders throughout the United States to further develop a diverse advanced manufacturing workforce. The NCNGM leadership team consists of representatives from advanced manufacturing programs at community colleges across the United States including Central Community College in Nebraska, Columbus State Community College in Ohio, College of the Canyons in California, and Indian River State College in Florida. Co-PIs are subject matter experts in their advanced manufacturing disciplines and are at various levels of NSF ATE grant experience to provide the opportunity for mentoring within the leadership team. The NCNGM collaborates with partners from education, industry, government, and private and public organizations. These various stakeholders work together to address the nation’s need for a pipeline of students equipped with the skills to pursue careers in advanced manufacturing during the Fourth Industrial Revolution, known as Industry 4.0.
