Introduction of ProjectManagement for Thesis Research was developed. A total of 19 students were enrolled in this classin Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. We utilized a pragmatic evaluation paradigm to develop assessmenttools and collect data regarding the program’s effectiveness. We have collected a variety of datafrom the first two GAPS cohorts that include program participation data, document analysis, andstudent surveys. In this paper, we highlight the results of our assessment, which demonstrate thepotential of this approach to improve graduate training and will be leveraged to improve trainingfor future cohorts.KeywordsGraduate education, STEM education, project management, professional development, assessmentOverview Of GAPSIn Fall 2020, with support

At least thirty 9th-12thgrade mathematics, computer science, and pre-engineering teachers will participate in AR-DATAand work with faculty mentors, graduate students, curriculum coaches, and industry experts in asix-week RET Summer Program and academic-year follow up to develop and disseminatelearning modules to enhance current curriculum, attain new knowledge of data analytics andengineering applications, and benefit professionally through the RET program activities. Thelearning modules developed will reflect current cutting-edge analytics research, as well as thedevelopment needs of next-generation analytics workforce.KeywordsData Analytics
” “Provide industry speakers to emphasize the importance of communication skills, leadership, management, and teamwork”The ASCE Civil Engineering Body of Knowledge 3rd Edition (BOK3)3, published in 2019, alsorecognizes this need; it includes six outcomes related to professional skills: communication, teamwork and leadership, lifelong learning, professional attitudes, professional responsibilities, and ethical responsibilities. It is, perhaps, not surprising that multiple generations of educators and practitioners (1955, 1995,2019) recognized the necessity for professional skills in the successful civil engineer. TheSummit participants were no different in this regard. It is curious, however, that these multiplegenerations were all moved to
preparing the students to actively participate (attendance is required) at the Career Fair. As noted in Table 1 presentations on resume development and Career Services are offered early in the Fall semester, which help prepare students to derive maximum benefit from the Career Fair. Capstone Experience Class (Spring Semester) The Spring semester Capstone Experience course (Table 3) is a three-credit hour class. The first deliverable for the course is revision of the DRAFT Project Documents submitted at theTable 3: Generic Syllabus for Capstone Experience CourseACTIVITY TOPIC WEEKWorking Review Session Introduction
emphasize to any online students about the difficulties of online education, and the need for the students to consistently work on the course.4. Conclusion and Future Research This paper examines the student learning in two courses. Both classes are taught in a hybridteaching format. The in person students hear and participate in the lecture. This lecture isrecorded and uploaded for the online students. Thus, all students have similar exposure to thematerial. In a junior level course, the online student learning was statistically significant andworse than the learning outcomes for the in person students. However, in the graduate levelcourse, the student learning was similar between the in person and online students. Mostinteresting is that the
educate people, to equip them with appropriate knowledge, skills, andother personal qualities, that enable them to perform critical functions in the society and beresponsible citizens” [1, p. 37]. This creates a great responsibility to those faculty membersimparting knowledge to the students. Furthermore, higher education is pressured by employersto meet these standards via their graduates; this has become an important aspect of accreditationin programs such as architecture, engineering, or engineering technology. Felder and Silverman urged engineering educators to dedicate their research efforts tounderstand learning of engineering students because “mismatches exist between commonlearning styles of engineering students and traditional
were part of the College of Engineering (CoE). As of Fall2020, the CoE had 3,206 undergraduate students of which 27.7% are female. Underrepresentedstudents (including female, minority, and first-generation students) made up 49% of the first-yearclass. The class average ACT ranged from 28.4-28.8 and the class average high school GPAranged from 3.82-3.85 from fall 2016 to fall 2020. First-year retention rates in the CoE rangedfrom 67%-72% and six-year graduation rates ranged from 48%-50% over the past five years.First-Year Engineering Program (FEP) at the University of Arkansas was established in 2007with the intent of increasing student retention and success in CoE. FEP is more than just a set ofclasses; it also provides orientation, peer
Section ConferenceUndergraduate laboratory courses are generally used to demonstrate the operation of engineeringequipment and to generate experimental data to test parameters and validate engineering models. In addition, laboratory experiments are used to develop and improve teamwork and leadershipskills and as a vehicle to improve written and oral communication skills. Feisel and Rosa [2]present a history of the development of educational laboratories and how changes have beenincorporated throughout the years. Recently, there have been significant developments in the useof virtual labs. Korestky et al. [3] note that virtual labs are better for experimental design, critical thinking and dealing with ambiguity, while physical labs are better for

softwarepackage Ansys Fluent provides academic license to students free of cost but the functionalitiesavailable in the free version are restricted. The cost of license for different commercial software © American Society for Engineering Education, 2021 2021 ASEE Midwest Section Conferencepackages can vary from one to another; however, in general, the license cost of commercialsoftware for installation in a single PC roughly amounts to about $10,000 per year. Such highprices make the commercial software packages almost unaffordable to purchase an individuallicense. The goal of engineering programs in the nation is to train students with necessary knowledge andskills enabling them to apply those
courses in the KU EE graduate degrees, writing components wereincorporated into each class that mirrored the thesis requirements. These requirements includedperforming literature searches and properly citing references (CE 770), writing and testing writtenprotocols (CE 771), modeling physical systems (CE 772), and placing relevant data in the contextof the current literature (CE 773). Students self-selected topics, and graduate students wereencouraged to select topics relevant to their research. In our key results, we highlight one of the transformed courses and specifically address theimplemented writing components. As the course transformations began at the beginning of 2020,the content delivery and standard evaluation procedures were severely
general studies in Computer Scienceand work outside of my home state at a new university has been a truly extraordinary experience.Coming from a software background, I have felt somewhat out of place compared to my peerspursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical or mechanical engineering. Despite this,my research project focusing on the development of a GUI for PowerSynth has combined mygeneral interests in Computer Science with a tangible hardware application. While my task wasfocused on software design and programming, research with power module fabrication providedvaluable exposure to advanced topics completely outside of Computer Science. In this way, Ibelieve that undergraduate research can act as an effective tool for
