processescourses. The work presented in this study was done in an effort to deliver a similar solution for an upper-level course on the Introduction to Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Automation. Thiscourse involves aspects of an automated manufacturing environment, including programmablelogic controllers (PLCs), computer numerical control (CNC), and robotics. Over the last twoyears, a continuing effort has been made to rejuvenate this laboratory with new equipment, including new student PLC trainer stations and their corresponding integration software. Thesesystems were created for students to learn the functions of PLC hardware components, ladderlogic, timer and counter functions, and human-machine interface. The curriculum created aroundthis new

service-learning can be offered as part of students’ senior (capstone) design projects, when the NAE GCSPis not available to the students. Service-learning can facilitate the integration of applied research into the real-worldapplications [13]-[28]. This paper promotes research-informed service-learning approach inproject-based service-learning by integrating research into service-learning through education. Inthis paper, examples of research-informed practice for university graduate and undergraduateprojects are given, and service-learning is discussed as a powerful tool in education. The paperfurther discusses case studies of research-informed service-learning as a complementary approachto project-based curriculum and educational activities

Euler’s Method, Insulin Pump (PID) In this last laboratory exercise, refocusing on computational skills, students are tasked with two major challenges: developing the appropriate mathematical representation of proportional (P), integral (I), and derivative (D) feedback and writing a differential equation solver applying Euler’s method (a technique discussed in prerequisite courses and developed in lecture).MATLAB® Grader™Each laboratory exercise is developed and tested using MathWorks MATLAB® Grader™ onlinetool. This tool is an excellent platform for developing coding
