recitation more often withstudents, and increasing the number of methods to communicate listed in the syllabus.Peer-to-Peer interaction is especially pertinent to engineering education, as asserted by ABETaccreditation standards. ABET 5 particularly addresses “ability to function effectively in bothsingle-discipline and multidisciplinary teams”, because communication and collaboration areskills transferable to professional settings like industry or academia [20, p. 11]. Since it is theacademic structure of the syllabi that caused the most variation in the data (that is, the presenceof lab classes), this study recommends opportunities for cooperative learning between studentsbe present in all class settings to strengthen bonds within the classroom

A survey was distributed to faculty at universities with civil engineering programs acrossthe United States. The survey responses reveal concepts related to traffic operations are coveredin a large majority of introductory transportation courses and many universities offer a secondarycourse covering concepts related to traffic operations. The survey also reveals that, while mostinstructors utilize active learning strategies in their classrooms, there is little collaborative effortthat goes into developing
