The string search in the two databases produced 345 initial papers.3.3.2 Primary selectionAfter obtaining the initial papers, we manually removed duplicates. This removed 4 papers,leaving us with 341 to screen. To screen, we used a two step process. First, we read all of thetitles to ensure that they were related to civil engineering, sustainability, and cognitive biases.Many of the papers either only had one of the topics, or were construction papers. The goal of the initiative is to attract students to skilledjobs as truck drivers and diesel mechanics, fields which have experienced labor pool shortages.Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, and New Mexico either have or are developingsimilar programs.The research work built on these workforce development efforts by extending outreach tostudent as early as middle school and by creating a series of learning modules that faculty andother driving simulator owners can use for freight career awareness outreach events. professional world. Improving theirfinancial literacy was one of many items that were stuck in the back of my mind. This paper willfocus on answering two questions: (1) Is there a need for financial literacy education among engineering students, includingcivil engineering students; and (2) Can financial literacy in civil engineering students be increased through a limitedseries of seminars?To answer the first question this paper will review some of the research that makes a case for theneed for such education among college students and provide results of a survey of engineeringstudents at our college to gauge their confidence and knowledge of basic financial literacy.
