Implementing this on-line system allowedfaculty advisors to monitor the students’ thinking processes and progress made between classes. Thus, inclasses, the students and faculty advisor were able to focus their attention on important design issueswithout spending time on trivial housekeeping issues. Faculty members were asked a variety of questions aboutclassroom assessment practices in capstone design courses. Findings suggest uncertainty on the partof many faculty members concerning sound assessment practices, including writing objectives, usingappropriate assessment strategies, sampling material appropriately, and controlling for mis-measurement of student achievement.
