Theycreated an Excel file comparing different brands from different websites and calculated valuesfor how much each sheet would cost if a larger sheet was cut down to the size needed for thethermoforming machine. Utilizing modeling and simulation techniques facilitates the studyof coal fly ash particle settlement as a starting point for these course-based projects. share our course designphilosophy and some aspects of our specific implementation, in hopes that others will be able tomake similar changes in their courses.Like most universities with a sizable engineering program, Stanford’s electrical engineeringdepartment offers a large introductory electronics course (known as ENGR 40) taken by studentsfrom many backgrounds and majors. Figure 1 shows the breakdown by major and class year,aggregated across four offerings of the course (Spring 2012 through Fall 2013).As the graph suggests, there are two primary groups of students. The first are “undeclared”students who take the course in their first or second year as a way to decide which engineeringdiscipline suits them. The second group takes the course
