diverse promotion patterns as the product of individuals’ idiosyncratic interests,values, goals and competencies, leaving ourselves open to meritocratic explanations of career mobility. Incontrast, when we account for systemic inequities in organizations and society by critically examiningengineers’ careers in the aggregate, it is possible to gain insights into the “hidden curriculum”1 ofprofessional advancement. In this paper, we take the latter approach, adopting a critical secondaryanalysis of data originally collected for a project on situated workplace learning. correlations were found between any of the surveyitems and lab report grades. Only Fall 2020 showed any significant correlations between any ofthe survey items and whether the students were on or off campus when they performed the lab.However, there was a significant difference (P=0.0004) between the initial hybrid lab term andthe subsequent terms when it came to equally engaging all students in the lab group. This canperhaps be attributed to the combination of improved lab handouts and, paradoxically, havingless equipment set up for the students prior to lab. curriculum, in freshman through senior level courses, usually fortwo to four student learning outcomes per course.In those same courses, the university requires a formal student evaluation of teaching survey atthe end of the semester. Our university uses the IDEA system that includes asking the students toassess their own “progress on objectives” on up to 12 different objectives. The results of theIDEA student surveys can be classified as an indirect measure, which can be used to triangulateour own direct measurements.
