normalsenior project is demonstrated in the lab and then it is forgotten. However, the industry-basedproject is put into service after the demonstration. This brings other considerations to bear. Thefirst is that the product must be designed for easy maintenance after it is placed into operation. Italso makes it necessary to address product liability concerns. That is, the project must bedesigned in such a way so that it is not possible for the operator or maintenance personnel to beinjured by the project.ResultsThis project resulted in two successes: First, the project fulfilled the requirements of the courseand both the students and faculty advisors learned a lot. .” Page 11.345.2In response to the national need to increase the number of graduates who are knowledgeableabout security issues, Iowa State University and its Information Assurance Center have createdseveral initiatives to increase the awareness in computer security and to increase the number ofstudents pursuing a degree with a focus on computer security. These programs include a summerworkshop for faculty, a cyber defense competition for college students and IT professionals. Wealso saw a need to reach out to high schools to try and increase the number of students interestedin computer security. To this end the ISU Information Assurance Center and the local chapterof InfraGard2 created the Computer Security Summer Camp. The camp was first
