do young elementary students considervariables, specifications, and constraints when evaluating and redesigning solutions toengineering design problems?MethodologyThe study's subjects were six Kindergarten and nine 3rd-grade students at a public, magnetelementary school in a large, urban school district. The school's demographics wererepresentative of the state and district averages, and the school had recently been named a STEMschool by the district, which meant that it was expected to integrate STEM across all subjects, and provide students with increased opportunities for engaging in STEM activities such asscience fairs and university/industry partnerships. teammembers, and the clarity of the decision-making process.Team Network Structure and Ethical InteractionsIn understanding decision-making and ethical reasoning in teams, the role of communicationbecomes essential in the team context. Communication encompasses the verbal messages teammembers use to share information with each other, but also involves nonverbal factors (such as“body language” and seeming enthusiastic or skeptical), and the relations formed betweenmembers as they interact. Several studies have found that the way team members communicatewith each other is crucial in determining how they collaborate and the success of those efforts38-40 . However, the precise role of communication in contributing to a group’s success is still amatter

Masteryexperiences have even been found to be the most influential contributor to self-efficacy.5,6 Bycompleting engineering mastery experiences, students are likely to believe more strongly thatthey are able to complete difficult engineering tasks, and this increased self-efficacy leads toincreased persistence in engineering.7 Projects, which require students to apply engineeringfundamentals in an industry-relevant work environment, have the opportunity to provide studentswith relevant mastery experiences that can improve their academic self-confidence and self-efficacy.Project-based learning has become an important part of higher education.8 Projects not onlyimprove learning outcomes, but also increase motivation by demonstrating how acquiredknowledge and

Civility can be instrumental in promoting the collaboration necessary for positive synergy. • Workforce composition: the American workforce has experienced a significant increase in diversity.21 Employment today reflects large numbers of women, minorities, persons with disabilities, immigrants, and people from different generations and with different education levels. Diversity and inclusion require civility in order for people to get along with each other and have equal career opportunities. Being treated in a respectful manner is a fundamental expectation of all employees.4. Laws and Policies Against Inappropriate

listening are key to success in a highly collaborative working environment [6].Studies have shown that involving students in engineering projects helps improve technical andinterpersonal communication within teams, with the suppliers of technical parts, and non-engineers. It has also helped improve English writing skills for international students [7].One would expect engineering students to possess high levels of these skills upon graduation;however, the results of past surveys show that engineering students are inadequately equipped tomeet this need [8-9]. Although engineering students are typically required to communicate theirdesign to a broader audience at the end of the senior capstone course, there is not much emphasisand attempt to provide

significance. These results seem to imply that female students, particularly inengineering, have internalized limitations on their ability to succeed in their field that their malepeers have not. The presence of female faculty, i.e. women who have achieved the highest levelof academic accomplishment in their field, helps female students to envision themselves havingsimilar ability to succeed. Believing oneself capable of achieving a goal is an essential elementin actually attaining that goal. Therefore, to increase the number of women succeeding inengineering, i.e. not only graduating with undergraduate engineering degrees, but persisting inthe engineering industry and achieving lofty goals such as earning graduate degrees, attainingprincipal engineer
