Figure 1: Block diagram of the virtual reality system.Several different researchers have developed2-6 or used7,8 haptics for hands-on instructionof physics, engineering statics, dynamics and control systems in undergraduate curricula.For those that performed evaluations of the effectiveness of the haptic feedback, it wasfound that: 1) students were excited about the use of haptic feedback, and 2) theperceived value by the students was relatively high. However, in the only study to do acontent evaluation6, there was no difference between using a virtual simulation with onlyvision and one with vision plus haptics.
