offersa promising avenue to enhance classroom instruction and practical learning experiences. Soartificial intelligence tools can contextualize students. Artificial intelligence (AI) as a field hasbeen developing over the course of these last decades, but in the past few years has taken moreimportance in the field of higher education, specifically in careers such as Civil Engineering. As a result, the purpose of this study is to explore the development of critical thinking in WaterResources students by using artificial intelligence programs. Platforms such as ChatGPT canassist students in interpreting given information, such as waterway sizing, water supply andenvironmental laws to facilitate the learning process. structural content delivered to all students. Finally, schools within the same system with identical course descriptions were treated as one course and were not counted twice in the results. Based on these criteria, 264 distinct course descriptions were analyzed for this study. 2. Selecting Common Course Topics Using the OpenAI API The 264 course descriptions were used as input to the gpt-3.5-turbo model [18] (ChatGPT) to identify common topics such as influence lines, moment distribution, etc. The first 20 course descriptions were analyzed by hand to verify that the 15 common topics identified by ChatGPT were helpful in identifying the content taught in the courses. He goes on to contend that our task as professorsis not unlike that of a commercial for a soft drink or other product- what differs, is what professorsdo with the attention once they have it.Stories are not just a means to record historical events but can be a powerful way to teach lessons.Jesus Christ, arguably one of the most influential individuals in history relied heavily upon the useof stories (parables) and metaphor to teach His disciples, who in turn have passed these storiesdown for over 2000 years. Not into religion? If your faith lies instead on the future of Artificial Intelligence, then considerthat ChatGPT lists “storytelling” as its number 2 strategy when asked how to make engineeringvideos
theSCOPUS database using the query [“artificial intelligence” OR AI] indicates that annualpublications on AI have increased by almost an order of magnitude from 2004 to 2023. Therelease of ChatGPT by OpenAI in November 2022 and then Google’s release of Bard in March2023, along with other similar chatbots, has resulted in more direct access to AI tools. Despitethe accessibility of tools such as ChatGPT, the use of generative AI is variable among differentpopulations and industries [1, 2].The influence of AI has extended to civil engineering although adoption into professionalpractice appears cautiously slow [3, 4]. Available AI models are well-suited for civil engineeringapplications [3]. In scientific literature, there are many examples of AI and
classes. Implementing these methods to civilengineering problems in major requirements and electives can be mentioned to allow students torecall these concepts throughout their undergraduate career. High technology will only becomemore available, such as ChatGPT, and instructors and lecturers must prepare students for aworkforce that can use these methods for their own professional benefit. Section 2 provides moredetails on how universities can consider ABET accreditation when making high technologychanges in their curriculums.2. Accreditation and continuous improvementCivil engineering programs seek accreditation in order to ensure their program meets definedstandards of quality set by an accreditation organization. Accreditation also ensures
