They were developed to provide sustainable, effective methods for near-peermentoring that could be implemented on a larger scale. The two near-peer mentoringframeworks, targeted mentoring and general mentoring, were developed based on the followingobjectives: 1. Provide first-year mentees with additional project input and technical writing and presentation feedback. 2. Provide first-year mentees additional information about campus life, the curriculum, and professional opportunities based on the experience of current upper-level students. 3. Create

While thestudents were encouraged to develop something that might be adopted in future offerings ofstatics, the authors’ main goals were for the students to enhance their own understanding of astatics concept through the curriculum development process and gain a deeper appreciation forthe challenges of designing effective curricula. At the beginning of a summer 2023 offering of mechanics of materials, five studentswere assigned a project to choose a statics concept that they previously struggled with andbrainstorm ways they would want that concept taught to themselves knowing what they knownow. The mechanics of materials instructor interviewed each student individually early in theterm using a semi-structured

The majority ofthese solutions require operational convergence, placing a heavy demand on the academiclearning process to ensure that graduates possess the skill transferability required at theworkplace. This study examines the transferability of design skills in undergraduate civilengineering students through a longitudinal study conducted at the Kerala TechnologicalUniversity. In particular, the study analyzes the impact of freshmen Design and Engineeringcourse on the transferability skills demonstrated by the same group of students in a senior-yearGroup Project course in the civil engineering program. The findings show that

challenges of the engineeringprofession. Through equipping the educators with this resource, we aim to reinforce the ethicalfoundation of young engineers, ensuring they are well-prepared to uphold the highest standardsof integrity as they embark on their professional journeys.IntroductionEngineers have a major responsibility for protection of public welfare and the environment dueto the nature of engineering projects and designs being closely related to both (Bielefeldt, 2022).Engineering education has long recognized the importance of integrating ethics instruction intothe curriculum to prepare future engineers for the ethical challenges they may face in theirprofessional careers. For this reason engineering educators have been developing modules

Surveying Equipment Using Cost-Sensitive Devices to Promote Innovative Mapping Solutions in Undergraduate EngineeringAbstractEngineering applications typically use mapping products as input for developing solutions.Several levels of data acquisition can support engineering projects, such as orbital, aerial, andterrestrial data gathering. Considering the terrestrial level, the way to acquire data can be static, where the equipment is at a fixed position during the measurements, or kinematic (mobile), inwhich a platform carries the equipment during data acquisition - in movement. Terrestrial mobilemapping systems (TMMS) usually have sensors assembled in a vehicle that collect data whilemoving, and nowadays, these systems

, they need to understand the different stakeholders who are impacted by thedesigns they create. In a typical civil engineering design process, direct stakeholders (e.g. theclient) may be involved during the beginning of the process when establishing the criteria of theproject, with perhaps some limited community engagement during public outreach. This approachhowever limits the perspectives contributing to a project. Values Sensitive Design (VSD) is amethodology that asks the engineer to systematically consider values and norms, direct andindirect stakeholders, and the long-lasting impacts early and throughout the design process to craftmore equitable solutions and reduce or eliminate unintended consequences. an Introduction to Design course. These modules enabled students to experience and practice effective teaming skills through role- playing. The modules focused on how to act and how to respond to promote psychological safety on design projects. Each module was tailored to a different phase of the design process. The themes of the three modules are (1) treating every idea as having potential to contribute to a positive outcome, (2) questioning an idea to obtain valuable insight, and (3) applying the brake to improve a decision. To explore the impact of the modules, we deployed a post-course survey to measure students’ perceptions of psychological safety on their project teams. Compared to control sections of freshman design in

Ournew curriculum, that was the result of a multi-year effort, is centered around a “design spine”.The design spine, series of eight courses, is expected to improve the development of professionalskills, improve fluency with data analysis and computing skills, improve critical thinking skills, and integrate systems thinking through project-based learning. The design spine helps connectand integrate the separate subdiscipline courses typical of most civil engineering curricula as asystem of systems. The
