. Can this first day activity help raise customer awareness, an importantattribute of an entrepreneurially minded engineer in first year students? To answer this question,a survey was conducted prior to the activity to gauge students’ understanding of how to approachdesign problems. After the first lab, students individually submitted reflections about their firstlab experience and these reflections were analyzed qualitatively. Themes that emerged during thequalitative analysis of the reflections were noted and the frequencies at which they appearedwere counted and tabulated.In the paper, the course and the activity will be described. run of a faculty development program called WritingAcross Engineering (WAE). The program draws heavily on the Writing Across the Curriculum(WAC) and Writing in the Disciplines (WID) literature [2], [4]–[9], but differs in three key ways.First, WAE is grounded in a sustained interdisciplinary collaboration designed and led by a teamthat spans Physics, Engineering, and Writing Studies. Second, rather than the typical one-offintensive workshop model, WAE organized weekly meetings of a small cohort over a semester,similar to a faculty learning community.  Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech is currently infusing entrepreneurial minded learning and critical reflection throughout the undergraduate curriculum. One unique aspect of this effort is the creation of student­faculty partnerships that are focused on developing more entrepreneurially minded and reflective pedagogy within specific core courses. In this pilot effort, eight biomedical engineering students were recruited based on previous course experience, academic performance, and expressed interest in entrepreneurially minded learning and course development. These student partners formed a core team of course implementation assistants (CIA) that were overseen and supported by one faculty member serving as team leader. Six

This study of student development arose midway through thecourse of the independent design project, during a meeting between the lead author and the advisor.The advisor suggested that the author’s rich expression of individual development should berecorded and reflected upon.
