So being here sincesixth grade, I’ve always been good at math, and I’ve always been able to get an A+ or just an A.”Kyra elaborated on strategies to succeed: “So in class really, if you just pay attention carefullyand listen and get all the notes done, you’re good. So, it’s not really that difficult or stressful forme.” Ailani from Beta responded, “I always had a B or a A. I’ve never had a bad grade.” Whenpushed to describe what she finds enjoyable about science, she vaguely responded, “I don’tknow. positive emotional responses such as hope and empowerment. Hope is essential inenabling individuals to recognize both their capabilities and the opportunities available to themin a way that can help them engage in behavioral change (e.g. COM-B model [24]). Cultivatingpositive affective states can enhance creativity and resilience in addressing sustainabilitychallenges [15],[25]. Positive emotions are also more likely to entice students to approach a topicand engage [26].Intentionally considering emotions in the design of sustainability education in engineeringpresents an opportunity to foster a more holistic and effective learning environment. and campuses, and evenwithin many individual campuses, that made carrying out some of the major goals of the grantsuch as development of a system-wide faculty dashboard and administration of the grant itselfquite challenging.Additional important factors that contributed to the challenges are: a) considering the CSUsystem is predominantly a teaching institution, faculty Co-PIs tend to have much higher teachingloads. The grant budget underestimated the time required by the faculty. b) The powerdifferential between the faculty Co-PIs and administrators could hinder the progress. This is especially true when there are several tenure-track or tenured faculty without any administrative experience serving as Co-PIs. The faculty can certainly
