undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) ofwhich N=1,330 are identified as STEM students. These students will be provided with theinitial 12-question survey. Data analysis will identify student perceptions and will allow forimplementation of programs ranging from faculty mentorship to faculty outreach. To further assess relationships identified, the research team plans to organize focus groups withstudent participants. For example, if lack of awareness is the greatest issue preventing studentsfrom participating in URE, then steps to remediate this can be taken, such as the need forgreater publicizing of campus research opportunities. Once we know more about time usage,we will address time management in terms of studying and

To reinforce the main point, by adding a social aspect, be it withclassmates or with the world, users will have a greater feeling of connection with their work andmight retain more information.Another study performed by Z. Nedic (2013) at the University of South Australia shines light onthe collaborative aspect of remote labs. The study saw international students organizethemselves autonomously to complete group lab assignments and recorded their planning andcommunication. The results showed that students, despite being from different countries, exhibited politeness when trying to create social groups and complete the remote labs. The studygives hope to the notion of creating a more connected educational system where students

Asurvey was conducted at the end of the semester to collect student responses on theachievement of course outcomes using this methodology. Full survey results would becomemore meaningful after the course is offered a few more times using this approach. However, student responses during class activities and discussions, and the course survey indicate thatthe new approach (description of course outcomes, and planning and execution of learningactivities and assessments) is well received. Students feel that they are learning the basics ofMSE in a more well-structured, and lively, energetic, and interactive

because young buyers often become loyal to their first new car brand. Also, your dealers have been demanding a competitive product to get customers from theircompetitors. Your company has planned a bold new design, code named YS, that is a completelynew design – new engine, new chassis, new suspension. All of these new components havecreated challenges in engineering and manufacturing that are threatening to delay the project. You have been called to a meeting to finalize the design of the YS so that manufacturing won’tbe delayed but first you need to decide as a team if a new suspension component, called a swaybar, will be added to the YS. The Large Project Lead has called a meeting to make the decision. You are six weeks from the design freeze

An advisor isresponsible for providing information on degree requirements and guidance for students tocomplete a degree plan. A mentor, on the other hand is a positive role model who can guide andmotivate student professionally. A mentor can provide resources and tools that will stimulateengagement in discussions about intellectual issues that will increase student’s aspiration

Through use of a retrospectiveanalysis, we present quantitative evidence that the use of rubrics per our methodology results inhigher grading consistency. Due to the combined physiological andpsychological demands of firefighting, firefighters must go through extensive training whichtypically takes place in a physical environment “classroom’’ with the implementation of thestandard operating guidelines taking place during live - fire training scenes [2]. These scenesrequire tremendous efforts and assets including training personnel, specialized training facilitiesand carefully planned live - fire scenes, as well as new training models for each single trainingactivity [2]. . The dream of an autonomous vehicle has been there for almost acentury. It can be said that the first “autonomous” vehicle was Stanford Cart which was built in1961. The automated car concept was evolved truly in 1980s with Carnegie Melon University’sNavLab and ALV projects which resulted in ALVINN which used a neural network to drive [8].The automotive industries are conducting significant research and development efforts in thearea of autonomous vehicles. The major automotive companies like Toyota, Ford, MercedesBenz, BMW, Volvo have announced their plans for creating an autonomous car. In the racetowards autonomous vehicles, Tesla and Waymo (from Google) are two of the most advancedcompanies. In 2014, Google introduced Google car with camera

One approach toencourage conceptual change in engineering statics in particular is through metacognitiveprompts: questions designed to focus student attention on planning and evaluating different waysof representing a problem before beginning a solution (Steif, Lobue, Kara, & Fay, 2010). Steif etal. (2010) implemented metacognitive prompts in the form of “body-centered talk” in anintroductory statics course, where students were prompted to focus on key concepts and developa conceptual understanding of the problem before attempting to solve it. The “body-centeredtalk” focused on encouraging students to think specifically about bodies in the problem, interactions between bodies, and drawing correct free-body

The ease of use, team participation, and file sharing available with Onshape shouldallow students to easily continue using CAD tools outside of their Engineering Design Toolscourse. If students continue to use their CAD skills, and take initiative to further develop thoseCAD skills with other packages demonstrated to them, they can continue to be confident in theirskills.References[1] "Onshape Education," Onshape, [Online]. One limitation of this study was that we used one-minutechunks in the data analysis, which did not give high granularity, but was necessary to simplifythe analysis. For future work, we plan to explore students’ four design strategies usage with abigger sample size and for a longer time. We might also include a second intervention toencourage students’ optimum design strategy usage that might result in better designperformances.AcknowledgmentResearch reported in this paper was supported in part by the U.S. National Science Foundationunder the award DRL #1503436. On the last day of negotiation, I was supposed to travel toDacca, the country’s capital to sign some final documents. The meeting was scheduled during the earlymorning hours. So my chauffeur and I woke up very early, and started driving before daybreak. Therewere no traffic jams during those early hours and the drive was smooth without any problem. When wereached the outskirt of Dacca I felt very relaxed thinking that we had arrived just in time to sign those veryimportant final papers of the negotiation. They struggled to see the reason for backing up and starting off with articulating goals and outcomes. But when they started to see how the goals and outcomes guided their thinking and allowed them to better work together to coordinate the various courses and align student learning they seemed to really embrace the process. Third, students create their own accounts and therefore usermanagement is a problem. In the future, we plan to develop more labs on commercial, public cloud systems and use VirtualPrivate Network (VPN) to connect students’ virtual machines with a central server to providebetter support and monitoring when needed.
