Education, 2020CACHE/ASEE Survey on Computing in Chemical EngineeringIntroductionCACHE (Computer Aids for Chemical Engineering) Corporation has conducted a survey in 2019on computing in chemical engineering education and industry. Previous surveys were conductedby CACHE of chemical engineers working in industry in 1997 and 2003. In these surveys mostof the questions pertained to chemical engineers working in industry with a limited number ofquestions related to what chemical engineers were taught at universities. In 2001 a survey wasconducted on computing practices in process simulation in chemical engineering education atuniversities [1]. For the 2019 survey CACHE surveyed both chemical engineers in industry andwhat faculty were teaching at

While ~55% of the students feltvery familiar/familiar with the design process at the beginning of the semester, ~89% of thestudents felt that way by the end of the semester. We also see that no students selected that theyare not familiar at all (option 1) with the design process after the semester. In the 2018-2019 season, many safety and manufacturing improvementswere made to systems relating to driver safety and comfort as well as weight reduction on thevehicle. The only exceptions were the seat and firewall having been left as afterthoughts for allfour completed seasons. This will be the first complete design and material overhaul of bothcomponents in the team history, allowing the Purdue University Northwest FSAE team to beginmaking similar design and safety improvements to its top competitors. It has been noted by manytop teams that structural components such as the firewall are comprised entirely of composites. This paper
