Dr. Bazyar Shourabi is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University/York Campus. Her current research is focusing on Smart cities and engineering education.
Experimental Centric based Instructional Pedagogy (ECP) with portable laboratory instrumentation provides a real hands-on experience to obtain a practical understanding of the concepts at an economic cost. This paper presents the adaptation of ECP to introduce commercial ADALM 1K Active Learning Module to the computer science students in a Digital Design Laboratory course in Fall 2023 for the first time in an Engineering department at a university teaching such concepts. The paper includes a new approach for implementation of a subtractor using Full adders and ADALM 1K Active Learning Module. Prior to working on this experiment, the students have become familiar with subtractor, half adder and full adder in Introduction Digital Systems course. These concepts come together and are solidified by the Implementation of a subtractor using full adder and ADALM 1K exercise. To conducive the project students majoring in Computer Science were worked with full adders IC, breadboards to connect circuits, and ADALM 1K Active Learning Module.
