Abstract

In this work-in-progress paper, we present the process and reflections of co-designing an Inclusive Teaching Toolkit within a design engineering department. Acknowledging the need for inclusive and accessible education resources, we engaged in three academic quarters of reflective discussions, prototyping, and user testing with students and instructors to inform and shape the toolkit design. Resources include guides to navigating accommodations, collecting and applying student feedback, going beyond land acknowledgments, diversifying readings, and more. We also do not present the toolkit as complete but rather intend for it to exist as a living curriculum and be adaptable to changing inclusive practices and circumstances. We highlight the successes and challenges in the design process in hopes that other engineering departments adopt the participatory and reflective method of co-design in the creation of living, inclusive pedagogical resources.
