Abstract

Digital logic is an introductory course given to all first-year students in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science (CS) programs at XXX university. The course covers arithmetic operations, combinational logic, sequential logic, applications of combinational and sequential logic, controller/dataflow design, and introduction to computer architecture. It is a 4-credit hour, 15-week semester course with three hours of lecture and three hours of laboratory experience each week. In a previous work, a module on fixed and floating point arithmetic operation was added to the beginning of the course, then the whole course was themed around arithmetic operation. This transformation allowed students to see the practical application of the course material without sacrificing its standard content. Building on our previous work, this paper discusses entrepreneurial mindset activities that were additionally integrated in the transformed course. The entrepreneurial mindset that the paper focuses on consists of three key elements: curiosity, connections, and creating value. The motivation behind the integrated activities was to make students more curious about the course content, allow them to connect the course material to life experiences, and teach them how to create value through innovation.
