Dr.Hossain is an assistant professor in the Department of Engineering Management at Arkansas State University. Dr. Hossain received his PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering in 2020 from Mississippi State University (MSU), Starkville, MS. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2010 from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and his MBA in Management Information Systems in 2013 from the University of Dhaka, both in Bangladesh. His main research interests include systems engineering, engineering education, model-based systems engineering (MBSE)/SysML, systems thinking, systems dynamics simulation, and systems resilience, risk & sustainability management.
Systems engineering management (SEM) focuses on designing, integrating, and managing systems over time using different skills and business concepts to improve the system's performance. System engineering management skills are essential when improving the performance and efficiency of the system. Systems engineers use knowledge from many different disciplines when working with people and companies to enhance the performance of a system. Various aspects of management in systems engineering include management planning and control, risk management, configuration management, decision management, project management, quality management, and information management. Some of these techniques are performed individually; however, others may be applied collaboratively in a group setting. In this paper, we will assess undergraduate students' (UG) “systems engineering management skills” based on a newly designed valid, and reliable instrument. First, we assess why it is imperative to develop effective management skills for undergraduate students. Second, we introduce a newly developed instrument that could appraise undergraduate students’ state of systems engineering management skills. Finally, the validation and reliability assessment of the instrument was performed followed by multiple group statistical analysis.
