Whenthis tool is properly integrated with effective pedagogies of engagement (like problem-basedlearning, or experiment-based learning), it can enhance students’ achievement of learning goalsand the development of essential skills such as teamwork, creativity, and digital skills. Also,online collaboration can facilitate peer assessment and peer learning. While it was found thatMiro was an effective learning tool in an engineering laboratory-intensive course, the smallsample size makes for the fact that these results cannot be generalized. ElementsAbstract:Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is an extremely important skill formechanical engineering students who will mainly design mechanical devices and components.However, a GD&T course is typically not included in an undergraduate mechanical engineeringcurriculum. Prior to this semester, DFW rates for this course varied in the single digits for the same instructor. Unfortunately, the DFW rate for this first online semester was 38%. BSMEprogram moved from the now defunct ABET Student Outcomes a-k to the new ABET StudentOutcomes 1-7 for the 2019-2020 academic year. The new Measurement Systems course wasidentified as an appropriate course to assess ABET Student Outcome 6 that states that studentswill have “an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpretdata, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions” [5]. This outcome differed slightlyfrom the previous Student Outcome b; thus, a new assessment was developed.A final significant factor in the course development was the multiyear effort at LTU toincorporate entrepreneurial education throughout the engineering curriculum [6, 7, 8].
