. IntroductionTwo digital design courses are offered at Bucknell University: one is entitled “DigitalSystem Designand the other is called “Advanced Digital Design.” Both courses consistof three hours of lectures and laboratories weekly. Digital System Design, offered to thejunior class, focuses on logic synthesis; schematic capture is used for design entry.“Advanced Digital Design,” offered to senior and graduate students, addresses system-level design methodologies; the detailed breakdown consists of VHDL, register-transfer-level design methodologies, advanced topics in logic synthesis, and technology mapping. This paper addresses the pedagogic considerations of teaching “Advanced DigitalDesign” using VHDL.The design description of a digital system may

. Moreover, the majority of thesemajors enrolled in the Robotics Track (one of five EE tracks offered to EE majors). Thesestudents most often cited that the idea of seeing immediate results of their work in buildingrobots to perform a variety of missions was very alluring and conceivably more rewarding thanother endeavors. Afterwards the program has again revaluated on how best to accommodate thisgrowing interest and its potential impact upon graduates, the robotics program itself and itsrelevance in new military applications. Consequently, our program is working with variouscompanies, other universities, and other government organizations to conduct joint research, develop future platforms/algorithms, and design courses to meet the rising demand

employed by practicing engineers. Faculty help students create a method of solution and evaluate their understanding. The developmental model implemented in ES21C is a model designed to exercise deeper levelsof thinking, specifically the: apply and analyze levels of Blooms Taxonomy2. Real worldapplication of class concepts are exposed through class projects connected with case studies.Professional engineers work on teams to complete a task; therefore students in ENSC 2613 wereassigned teams to complete the assigned case study and project.Due to the significant challenges associated with modifying a class this large with students ofvarious disciplines and learning styles as well as to better evaluate the impact of these newtechniques
