discovered the hidden phenomenon on their own, but overall,83% did discover the phenomenon with help from other students. Survey comments and surveyresults indicated that in the course, students developed an increased interest in takingcomponents apart and learning how they work, which indicates an increased intrinsic motivationfor lifelong learning. With these high expectations, studentsoften struggle due to the fact they are not only learning engineering concepts for the first time, butthey are also learning how to learn.As educators, it is our imperative duty to find instructional methods that best deliver not onlyrequisite information to students, but in a manner that is also conducive to critical thinking. Anincreasing number of studies suggest that the use of traditional textbooks may not be the mostefficient or cost-effective means of education. To the latter point, multiple studies have beenconducted on textbook prices for over five decades. Textbook prices have increased 1,000% fromthe late 1970’s to the mid-2010’s. Throughout the

demographics: ethnicity,gender, and first-generation students pursuing a bachelor’s degree. In addition to obtaining a largersample size of responses, methods will be developed to quantitatively analyze open responsesproviding feedback on the effectiveness of the EML project and to what extent students believedtheir background influenced this experience. We will additionally report a consensus on studentrecommendations for programs or resources that the university should supply to further supportHRMs. This work underscores the importance of incorporating EML material for HRM groupsand further diagnoses the presence of content exclusivity in EML-based projects.References[1] C. The presentation focused on their development ofan interdisciplinary engineering program that serves as something of an extended first-yearengineering program, providing problem- and project-based work for students in their first twoyears of school before they matriculate into a traditional engineering discipline.
