For core courses that are taken by all chemical engineeringundergraduate students, it is imperative that the knowledge is retained across multiple semesters.In this work in progress, a study is undertaken of how students retain knowledge delivered in thecourse taught by the instructor. The instructor’s course "Modelling and Simulations in Chemical Engineering” is a corecourse taken by all chemical engineering undergraduate students in their second year, in thespring term. The average class size ranges from 45-60 students. The learning objectives of thecourse are as follows:1. Convert the physical problem into a set of mathematical equations, identify appropriatetechniques and make an informed choice of one of these techniques.2

Recruitment and retention efforts for gender minorities areongoing at every level for K-12, undergraduate, graduate, and faculty positions across academiaand STEM. TheSCORBOT-ER 4u manipulator is a lightweight, 10.8 kg (23.8 lbs) system with a maximum linearspeed of 700 mm/sec (27.6 in/sec). Though not a collaborative manipulator, this low-mass andlow-speed system leverages a belt-drive design to create a low-inertia platform that is safe foreducational use. Similar to its industrial counterparts, the SCORBOT-ER 4u system includes amanipulator, controller, teach pendant, and proprietary programming environment [1]. In year one, Cohort Apiloted the PD modules in Tier 1 which featured reflective exercises and small culturallyresponsive activities to try with their STEM students. activitysuccessfully provides immediate exposure to an interesting physical system, to which an array ofaccessible modeling approaches can be applied. Since the activity (and subsequent analysis)relies on relatively little background knowledge, first-year STEM students can effectively engagewith the game, and some students can produce novel models of the game’s behavior. Thischallenges an assertion sometimes made in modeling pedagogy—that undergraduate studentslack the domain knowledge necessary to engage fully in the modeling process [1].
