As a result of herparticipation in this research project, Esperanza later sought a diagnosis for what she suspected wasneurodivergence in the form of autism. Esperanza identifies as a first-generation student despite herparents having attended college for the performing arts. Her parents were children of immigrants fromEurope and the Caribbean and as minority and first-generation students, they received an abundance ofguidance and assistance through their college experiences and did not come away fully understandingthe higher education systems and
