The researchers earned an NSF S-STEM grant in 2016 to study the effects of mentornetwork connectedness on collegiate STEM field persistence. This convergence mandates a rapidlearning of PIC functions and automation design, by engineers who historically have trained inadjacent disciplines. . Wereceived both positive and negative team stories from the participants. In addition, we found itwas not only the engineering classes, clubs, and teams that seemed to affect the sense ofbelonging, but also where the participants lived. Our preliminary results indicate that students’making experiences, especially in the context of project teams, influence how they feel asengineers. maintaining transfer momentum - full-time student status was oneof the strongest predictors of transfer in an analysis of 2003-2009 data from community collegesacross the U.S., doubling the probability that a student will transfer to a 4-year program (LaSotaand Zumeta, 2016). Said differently, Ge et al.’s [13] cross-sectional study showed that White engineering students demonstrate a higher predispositiontowards a growth mindset and a higher predisposition towards endorsing a fixed view of theirabilities. An exploratory study aimed at understanding the relationship between students’engineering identity and mindsets longitudinally found that both a fixed and a growth mindsetwere positive predictors of identity [14].
