offered CENG 4097 Civil Engineering Research credit (3 semestercredits for each student), counting as one of their three required Civil Engineering electives. Thismodel proved successful and has been used ever since. That is, students are incentivized withacademic credit for their work and they are mentored by an engineering faculty member. Thisresulted in a publication presented at the Frontiers in Education Conference in 2013 which is co-sponsored by IEEE and ASEE.
