When James Clerk Maxwell first published “A Dynamical Theoryof the Electromagnetic Field” in 1865, physicists found it difficult to grasp because the theoreticalframework seemed complicated. Mathematicians also found Maxwell’s work hard to understandbecause the equations were described in physical terms.
